Floating Wetland Geese Deterrent

Freshman Year BAE Project - Oklahoma State University

My first semester at Oklahoma State, our BAE course split our class into groups, and we were assigned to a Senior Design Team. The goal was to introduce us to Senior Design as freshmen and give us the chance to help the team on a small part of their project. The team that I was a part of was tasked with creating a floating wetland to help with shoreline erosion. The seniors gave our freshman group the assignment of researching ways to keep geese off the wetland, knowing this could be an issue due to where the wetland was being implemented. We were given design ideas as well as concerns and constraints to work with. Using this, we did research on different options, came up with several ideas, and even decided on an overall suggestion. The presentation we submitted is included below. Being a part of this project helped introduce me to engineering and design. I learned how to take a client request and come up with ideas that fit their wants and needs while staying within known parameters. This project focused mainly on research rather than implementation, but I believe it was a huge tool in the beginning of building my knowledge.
