About Me
I am currently in my final year at Oklahoma State University, pursuing a degree in Biosystems Engineering with a concentration in Natural Resources, alongside a minor in Microbiology. My academic journey at OSU began in August of 2021, following my simultaneous graduation in May 2020 from Epic Charter Schools with a High School Diploma and from Oklahoma City Community College with an Associate of Science in Biology. During the gap time in the pandemic, I also completed online and hybrid coursework and certification through RC Health to obtain my National EMT-B certification before deciding to continue the degree that I am working on now.
Before my time at OSU, I gained valuable work experience at a golf course and with two different oil field companies. Through these initial jobs, I started to learn about hard work and finding a passion for what you do. After my first semester at OSU, I was motivated to seek out a position aligned with my interests in science and engineering, leading me to work at an international water testing laboratory. This role provided hands-on experience with the monitoring, treatment, and quality control of one of the most important resources that I was learning about.
Due to my experience in the water section of natural resources, that is where a lot of my interest lies. However, I am never opposed to the discomfort and challenges that come with branching out to new areas of my studies. Biosystems engineering is one that ensures to cover all areas of engineering in teaching agriculture, machine systems, food processing, electrical and power systems, and environmental resources as well as covering areas like instrumentation, coding, and computer-aided design.
With that, I am actively looking to accept a permanent position to begin my career in Environmental or Natural Resources Engineering, starting in May 2025 after graduation. I am very willing to travel for work and am happy to relocate from Oklahoma after graduation, if that is where opportunities arise for me. I plan on taking the FE as soon as this December (2024) to hopefully have passed it by graduation and will be obtaining my EIT certification upon completion. I also plan on taking the PE soon after that, so all I will need is the four-year work experience to obtain my licensing. I am always open to other opportunities to expand my scope of knowledge and work as well, if ever required or requested by an employer. I appreciate any and all interest in my portfolio and am always open to answer any questions, comments, or concerns regarding any of my past experience or any future opportunities.
Sincerely,
Kiersten Franklin
